SHARED PLANET FOUNDER, AASHNA SHARMA, SPEAKS OUT ON INTERNATIONAL POLAR BEAR DAY

My love of polar bears was the reason I founded Shared Planet. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved the polar bear and that feeling continues today. So much so, that I knew it had to be the inspiration behind one of Shared Planet’s first color cosmetic collections. The Shared Planet brand has always been committed to working with organizations that are equally passionate about the animals that inspire us.
International Polar Bear Day is celebrated on February 27 and I want to bring familiarity to this special day and to the organizations that support the polar bears’ conservation. Polar Bears International is a phenomenal organization. From my very first interaction with PBI, I could sense their drive and excitement about working together with us to find new and innovative ways to raise awareness and create substantive impact.
THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNATIONAL POLAR BEAR DAY
I believe it is so important to take time to pause and reflect and re-evaluate how we can do more for the issues we are passionate about. That’s why I feel it is critical to look at International Polar Day as a way to consider how we can make a difference in our day-to-day lives, specifically in relation to preserving the polar bear and its natural habitat. Polar bears are not only incredibly beautiful and elegant, they are also synonymous with the Green Movement. As someone in eco-friendly beauty, I feel it is so important to pay homage to an animal that has given so much to this revolution. I would ask that everyone recognize how fragile and vital the polar bears’ environment is to their existence, and to ours. While we may often focus on the animal alone, we have to step back and look at how we can save their melting habitat. “Bare Existence” is a documentary video that bravely brings awareness to this issue.
CELEBRATING MY LOVE OF POLAR BEARS
Besides scrolling at the gorgeous and adorable photos of polar bears and their cubs on social media, I will be celebrating International Polar Bear Day by practicing more environmentally friendly habits in my daily routine, whether that be through actively reusing more products or being extra mindful of my day-to-day waste.
A DREAM COME TRUE
I find my conservation work incredibly rewarding! I feel so fortunate to not only create products that are so close to my heart, but also to create products that contribute to such a critical mission. It is a dream come true to combine these two passions.
TAKING ACTION
Take any action that you can! Big or small, it doesn’t matter. Any consistent changes we can make in our lifestyles to make less waste and add less to climate change is something anyone can do to preserve polar bears and all other endangered species. Shared Planet is in the market to make the world a better place while growing a product that makes a person beautiful and responsive.
